IRWS Open Show
Sunday 4th October 2009
My thanks to the committee and members of the Club for inviting me to judge this show. It was a lovely day, although the size and layout of the ring did limit movement.
Veteran Dog (3,2)
1. Wade’s Sh Ch Vanders Venatic Legend of Oldstone. 8 1/2 yrs. Lovely head and expression with good dark eye. Ears correctly set. Well boned, with good front angles and neat feet. Lovely spring of ribs. Clear coat. Starting to show his age. Not his usual self on the move.
Puppy Dog (2,1)
1. Callaghan’s Dalriach Lord of the Isles for Laoirebay 11 months. Raw young man with a lot of maturing to do. Good dark eye, would prefer a stronger head. Nice neck into well placed shoulders. Well boned, but lacking in angles at this stage. Excellent colour.
Junior Dog (3,0)
1. Walker’s Vanders Va Voom avec Wroxham. 14 months. Took a long time to settle to stand, but when he did showed good angles fore and aft. Nice head, square muzzle, good neck into well laid back shoulders. Good length loin, moved with level topline, but did not always show this when stacked. Improved in each class entered.
2. Walton’s Gallybob Gold Standard. 17 months. Lovely shaped young man who gave his handler the hardest of times. Very difficult to assess all his attributes. Slightly strong in the head for me, but very much my type of dog. Very well boned, good angles, well balanced through. Moved with drive.

Graduate Dog (4,0)
1. Walker’s Vanders Va Voom avec Wroxham.
2. Kearns’ Spiralwood Silver Maple. Lovely young boy of a very different type from 1. Attractive head, beautiful kind eye. Very strong bone. Well balanced through. Moved well. Unfortunately a tooth out of line.
Post Graduate Dog (5,0)
1. Green’s Temynloah Quinlan at Viszaset. Good head with square muzzle and correctly set ears. Strong neck, nicely into shoulders. Well angled front, nice forechest, good spring of ribs and length of loin. Level back. Adequate angles at the back. Could have moved with more drive.
2. Wade’s Oldstone Snow Wizard. Lovely boy, more my type, but did not perform today. Good head and expression, strong neck. Well balanced throughout. Tail well set on. Did not move to advantage.
Limit Dog (3,0)
1. Humphries’ Spyefire Priceless. Not quite my head type, but good square muzzle, nice eye with well placed ears. Strong neck into good shoulders. Balanced angles fore and aft. Level back. Good oval bone. Nice feet. Moved well given the lack of space. RBD
2. Ryan & McDonald’s Berryessa Royal Affinity of Ryemills JW. Gave his handler a hard time and did himself no favours on the move. Better colour than 1 but lacked the forechest of winner. Nice head and eye. Good bone. Balanced angles. Needs some ring craft to show himself to best advantage.
Open Dog (4,0)
1. Griffin’s Corranroo Connexion. Have waited to see this young man mature, and he is certainly coming to his best now. Nice head with pleasing eye and expression. Strong neck. Good shoulders. Well angled front, strong bone, good forechest. Strong level back, good length of loin. Balanced angles at rear. Good colour. Movement very assured when settled. Shone on the day. Pleased to award BD and BIS.
2. Valentine’s Sh Ch/Ir Sh Ch Tullamore Ted JW. Another nice boy, moved very happily with drive and lovely lashing tail, just not the angles and feet of 1
Veteran Bitch (5,0)
1. Horrock’s Sh Ch/Ir Sh Ch Kellizlot Star Ascendant over Itchenwych. Nearly 8. Showing her age, but a beautiful typey bitch with the loveliest of heads and expression. Good angles, very well balanced. Lovely level top line. Nice feet and bone. Moved with drive. BV.
2. Tong’s Kellizlot Star Attraction Sh M. Litter sister to 1. Also a pretty bitch. Not quite the angles or forechest of 1. Moved very well and happily.
Puppy Bitch (2,0)
1. Sherratt’s Charnborough Glamour Girl. 11 months. Pretty little girl with a lovely soft expression. Balanced angles, good bone. Not as mature as 2 but moved with a better balance. Lovely colour. BP
2. O’Connor’s Caispern Maid in Ireland. 11 months also. Good square muzzle, lovely dark eye. Not the balanced angles of 1.
Junior Bitch (4,1)
1. Howatson’s Vanders Vida Loca. 14 months. Promising youngster with good square muzzle, nice eye and expression. Strong neck. Good front, nice length of back and loin. Good rear angles. Tail well set on. Not quite settled into herself on the stack, but moved beautifully with drive, using herself well.
2. Sherratt’s Charnborough Glamour Girl.
Yearling Bitch (4,0)
1. Howatson’s Vanders Vida Loca.
2. Sherratt’s Casafelice Cormo at Charnborough. Nicely balanced young bitch. Nice head, although eye could be darker. Straight front, nice angles. Strong across back, good hock to heel. Lost out on the move.
Graduate Bitch (5,2)
1. Sherratt’s Casafelice Cormo at Charnborough.
2. Humphries’ Laoirebay All That Jazz among Spyefire. A picture on the stack. Lovely clear coat. Beautiful head and expression, well balanced angles. Very uncertain movement, not extending through her back.
Post Graduate Bitch (8,0)
1. Wade’s Oldestone Snow Shower. Very nice typey bitch. Sweet head and expression. Good strong neck, adequate angles at front. Strong back, nice length of loin. Tail well set on. Good rear angles. Strong hock to heel. Nice colour. Moved well. Lacking in furnishings at the moment.
2. Humphries’ Laoirebay All That Jazz among Spyefire. Much better on the move this class.
Limit Bitch (7,3)
1. Howatson’s Whispers About Vanders. When free-standing and moving this young lady has a lovely level topline. She drives through on good angles fore and aft. Nice enough head with good dark eye and level planes to the skull. Strong neck slightly arched into good shoulders. Elbows nicely tucked under. Good feet. Strong back with nice length of loin. Won today with an assured performance on the move. RBIS
2. Callaghan’s Laoirebay Ocean Sunrise. Very pretty bitch. Lighter eye than 1 and looser at the elbow. Good head with sweet expression. Balanced angles fore and aft. A little coarser than 1 over the shoulders. Lovely coat colour and texture.
Open Bitch (5,3)
1. Webb’s Shannonlee The Skylark JW. Very typey bitch with a very nice head and expression. Good balanced angles, strong back, good length of loin. Nice feet. Carrying too much weight. Very balanced on the move. RBB
2. Barry’s Sh Ch Shireoak Hurricane Ruby (Imp Can). Presents a very pretty picture. Very nice head and expression. Not as good as 1 in front. Nice length of neck, good level topline. Lovely clear coat, but not carrying much of it. Did not move freely today.
