Critique
It gave me such pleasure to receive your wonderful entry of clean well presented dogs and I thank you. However there were a few incorrect bites, some 'yellow' coloured eyes, and some dogs rather straight in upper arm. Two turned out lame, who were subsequently withdrawn. Also a few youngsters who were carrying excessive weight which spoilt their movement, and gave them a distinctive 'roll' on the move. Some topline's were rather soft, but most dogs were well muscled. Movement was sometimes rather erratic but I put this down to the bad undulating ground conditions in the ring. Coat colour has improved, but some dogs had a 'ginger' colour rather than the chestnut that the breed standard asks for. Pleased to say that most feet today seemed neat. There were some really smart puppies on show too, some at their first outing who were well schooled happy and relaxed.
Thanks to my ring steward for the efficient way she dealt with her job, helping to make the day run as smoothly as possible.
PUPPY DOG (5)
Some really nice babies all at different growth stages, with plenty on offer today!
1. Blackmore's Taniswood Dirty Dancer at Courtdown
At 11 months old this boy is looking very promising, he has plenty of bone and substance for his age. I liked his soft gentle expression & foreface good dark round eye, correct ear set. Strong neck, good topline & ribcage, width over his loins and quarters which were strongly built. Good angulations fore and aft, with neat feet. A well balanced young man at this stage, moving really well striding out around the ring. His coat is already thickening and showing good feathering with good markings & colour. Presented to perfection.
2. Pettifer's Vanders Vita Di Riley Con Crosswest
A smaller framed dog of nine months, and slightly taller than 1, has plenty to commend him. Very nice head neck and shoulders, not as deep in body as 1 and just needs to drop down a little behind. Good level topline, and tail set, attractive coat markings colour is good. He moved really well for his age. Well handled.
3. Walker's Vanders Va Voom Avec Wroxham
4. Bayne's Corranroo Crossfire
JUNIOR DOG (6, 1abs)
1. Wade's Oldestone Snow Wizard
My surprise of the day! Super young dog of sixteen months, and so well balanced at this stage. Typical R/W head of good proportions, round hazel eyes, strong in neck, well laid shoulders, excellent front with good heart room. Strong bone, spring of rib, short coupled, strength in his loin and over quarters, good angulations, holds a strong topline, carrying his tail straight off his back. Coat colour, condition and turnout were excellent, and he felt so good and firm to the touch. Well muscled behind. Moved with a good stride, and precision around the ring. I really liked this boy enough to award him the R.CC. Well done.
2. Lamb's Casafelice Askanian
Very smart young man coming along nicely. Gorgeous clean cut typical R/W head, dark eyes, ears set fair, clean strong neck, good front, elbows not as tight as 1 at this stage, but just needs to drop more in his body, fair spring in rib, good loin, tends to drop away a bit from the croup, owner perhaps needs to stand him out a bit more behind. Good angulation in front, adequate behind. Excellent coat and condition, beautifully shown and turned out. Moved well. I think he just needs a bit more maturity and time is on his side. A nice one.
3.Barry's Rustasha Red Hot Rhumba
4.CoIlin's Casafelice Elliottdale at Forestpoint
POST GRADUATE DOG (6, 1abs)
1. Lipscombe's Kellizlot River Legend
After a bit of a shaky start this boy settled down to the job in hand. Handsome head, dark eye, soft
expression. Good ear set, clean strong neck, good shoulder placement, fair front, good bone, feet OK, strong rib, bit long in loin, but strong quarters, good angulation, moved around the ring on a free flowing stride, white base coat could be clearer, but good red patches, coat and condition good. Shown with sympathy, and well handled to take the class.
2. Farrin's Temynloah Donal
Not a big one and not flashy but I liked this boy for his overall style. He feels pretty good to go over, firm and strong to the touch in all departments. A compact boy, with an appealing head, good front, strong neck, good shoulder placement. Tight in elbows, good depth in body, spring of rib, short coupled, strong quarters, firm level topline, reasonable angulation behind. Neat feet, and handled with determination and verve. Would just like a bit more of him.
3.TayIor's Laoirebay Ocean Sunset.
4. Chilcott's Cumbail Calamus
LIMIT DOG (4, 1W/D)
1. Sierakowski's Tullamore Troubadour
Where have you been hiding this young man from us! What a handsome fellow he is. I was so taken by his appearance. Obviously he is not used to being shown that much and was a bit over come by the procedures but I could see the overall quality and style this boy possesses. I want to see more of him! Fabulous head, such a wonderful melting soft expression, darkest of eyes, good set on ears, big black open nostrils, clean throat and strong neck, leading to well placed shoulders. Great bone and substance, plenty of heart room, neat feet, good depth in body, good spring in rib, strength in loin and quarters, correct ail set good angulations fore and aft, width to thigh, and strong from hock to heel. I just loved him. But, he was rather on the lean side and as he is only just over two and needing more maturity and did not co-operate with his handlers that well I felt he just about earned his place. His coat was pearly white and rich chestnut red. Moved well considering his inexperience in the ring. Oh I loved him. I hope we will see him out again soon, beautiful boy and son of my BOB.
2. Ryan & McDonald's Berryessa Royal Affinity of Ryemills
Flashy handsome young boy of nearly two and a half years old. Super head, of good proportions, dark eyes, good flews, clean neck well set ears flowing into a strong neck. His shoulders are well placed, and he possesses a good firm front, elbows neatly tucked in, he does have the bone and substance to match the qualities that commend him. Deep in chest and a good spring in his ribs, strong in loin and in width across his quarters, good tail set, but he does tend to wave it around high on the move. Moved out with drive and verve. Just needs a bit more body length for complete balance, and also I thought he needed to settle down for the job in hand. Beautiful coat and condition with a white basecoat, and clear island chestnut red patches. Not an easy dog to handle, and the handler is to be congratulated.
3. Bayne Corranroo Casanova
4. Jarvis’ Lowden Quest For Fame (withdrawn)
OPEN DOG (6, 1abs)
1. Valentine's Tullamore Ted JW
I liked this young man as a puppy and gave him the top honours then. He has been a slow maturing dog, so no need to change my mind on him today. I just love this boy for his overall qualities. Not overdone in any way and not a big boy but a clean cut clear coated Red and White Setter with islands of red chestnut patches and pearly white basecoat, which gleamed in the sunshine of the day. He fits the breed standard very well. At the age of just over three he has become in my eyes a great example of the breed today. Still only a young man and possibly awaiting full maturity. Super typical R/W head with a round dark expressive eye, soft gentle expression, big black wide open nostrils, clean cut broad head and flews, no throatiness. Good head markings and ear set, strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, neat feet, strong and tight in front which showed out on the move. He possesses a good spring in his rib, level top line, short coupled, strong in loin and strength in his back. Tail set good, with strength and width in thigh, enough angulation behind and he uses all of these qualities to move around the ring on a free moving effortless stride. A visually stunning dog with the qualities to match. CC & BOB & his crown.
2. Wade's Sh Ch Casafelice Aries Merino
An impressive dog, different type to one, possessing a larger frame. Good head properties, all male, but would have preferred a softer expression. Strong in neck, good lay of shoulder, which felt rather loaded. Strong bone, fair feet, great spring of rib and depth of chest & body. Wide and powerful quarters well muscled behind. Colour and markings good. He felt a bit on the heavy side today. Moved out well, but not as good in front movement coming towards me as one. Well handled and presented.
3. Corranroo Corsair at Zymore ShCM
4. Tong's Kellizlot Master Magician ShCM
PUPPY BITCH (4, 1abs)
Three lovelies!
1.Brown & Goldsmith's Taniswood Little Gem
A very pretty little gem she is too! I liked her overall make shape and style. She has a very pretty head, with soft round dark brown appealing eyes, well laid shoulders, good angulation for and aft, firm front strong in body and quarters already. Excellent coat colour, markings and condition. She moved around the ring as if she owned it, Handled with style and care to take B.P. Very nice.
2. Walton's Gallybob Gold Charm
Bigger framed bitch than one and looking quite mature for her 11 months. I liked her soft gentle expressive brown eyes, with good stop, well set ears, strong in neck, shoulders, not as good as one. Good body showing strength and depth but maybe carry a tad too much weight. Excellent coat, markings and colour, moved OK.
3. Caispern Maid In Ireland.
JUNIOR BITCH (2)
1. Wade's Oldestone Snow Shower
Litter sister to my Junior Dog winner and very similar in stature. Mature for her age, in full coat with good feathering. Her eyes are round but I would prefer a darker colour. Feminine head of good proportions, strong in her neck, good lay of shoulders good depth in body and spring in her ribs, wide and powerful quarters, great bone and substance, good muscle tone behind. Moved well around the ring.
2. Sherratt's Casafelice Cormo At Charnborough
A much lighter framed bitch, but a quality one. Very attractive in her appearance, with a pretty head soft expression, well set ears clean neck and throat, good lay of shoulders which were clean across the top, level topline with her tail set straight off her back. Quite a short coupled young lady with power in her body and quarters. Lighter in bone than one, but everything fits together very well. A neat bitch with plenty to like about her. Moved quite well, but still needs to settle down to the job in hand. Not the coat of one.
POST GRADUATE BITCH (8)
A mixed class of type and size.
1. Callaghan's Laoirebay Ocean Sunrise
My notes say 'quality bitch all through.' A two year old, flashy bitch with such a pretty kind feminine head of good proportions, good stop, eye colour and shape. Loved her 'Irish thumb print' on the top of her head, Strength in her arched neck, good heart room, depth of body plenty of substance and spring of rib. Tight feet, and good bone. Gorgeous silky full coat gleaming white, and chestnut red, looked a picture on the move flowing around at a good pace. Excellent presentation, and well handled, which won her the RCC. Well done.
2. Henderson's Temynloah Buffie JW
A smaller lighter boned bitch than one, another feminine head with a kind expression, clean square muzzle, muscular neck, straight topline, strength in her short coupled body. Neat feet. Not in full coat, but well marked with clear islands of red. Everything in the right place, & very firm to the touch, a surprising little bitch once gone over, and she can show some of the others how to move with great drive on a smooth free driving stride.
3. Housby's Tullamore Tiggywinkle
4. Chilcott’s Cumhail Chamomile
LIMIT BITCH (8, 1abs)
1. Tuck & Curtis Dalriach Joie De Vivre at Couldoran
Another classy bitch. Such quality in her general appearance, gorgeous head, broad and feminine with a good stop melting expressive dark round eyes. Ears set level with eyes, close to her head. Moderate muscular arched neck, great lay of shoulder, good front, and bone. Tight neat feet. Strong muscular body so firm in touch. Strong in quarters which were wide and powerful. Well bent stifles. Her coat and condition shone, and she moved with drive and power. Just one thing that let her down, I felt her to be very 'tense' not relaxed at all with her back twitching on a few occasions. Maybe her handler needs to relax herself somewhat.
2. Davies’ Ballakinnish Mignoette At Zymore JW
Unlucky to meet one today, as I was splitting hairs for these two places! A very typical bitch, slightly longer cast than one, but still retains the that 'look at me quality.' Another pretty girl, not quite the head of one, or square muzzle, slightly longer in foreface. Broad head, eye's and colour good. Strong neck. Not the shoulders of one, but still OK. She too has strength in her body, but is longer in loin, good bend of stifle and width to thigh. Short from hock to heel. Level topline. Beautifully turned out in good coat and condition., could have done with a little more drive on the move, very nice.
3. Ward's Copperwhite Cressida
4. Brown & Goldsmith's Taniswood Who's That Girl
OPEN BITCH (7, 1abs)
Best class of the day.
1. Barry's Shireoak Hurricane Ruby Rustasha (Imp Can)
I have watched this bitch from a youngster when she first arrived in this county, and she has come on in leaps and bounds in the past six months Not a flashy girl, but an honest type of R/W, who has taken time to come into her best, and at the age of three years old I believe that is now happening. Sweet headed bitch with good proportions good stop, dark soft expressive eye, with good facial markings and with the Irish Thumb Print on her head. Arched muscular neck, strong good layback of shoulders, tight front with plenty of heart room. She has a big spring of rib, back and quarters muscular, level top line, which she hold so well on the move. Good bend of stifle, and width to her thigh, well muscled, and short from hock to heel. He tail is carried well when she moves, and boy can she do just that. As sound as a bell, driving off her hocks. Such a thrill to watch. The handler is to be congratulated for keeping up with her on such bumpy ground. It was my pleasure to award her the B.CC. her fist, and I'm sure many more to come. Congratulations. The dog just had that extra finish for BOB on the day.
2.Blackmore's Sh Ch Courtdown Beautiful Dawn
A big favourite of mine, and looking so well today. Feminine head, perhaps needing a bit more stop, has a good colour to her eye, not the expression of one. Broad head good ear set laying close to her head. Strength in her neck, shoulders and front, again that level topline, broad back, deep chest, good angulations, and tail set. Beautiful coat, colour and markings and so well presented, a difficult decision for me between these two beauties! One had the edge on movement today. A lovely example of the breed.
3. Barcroft's Sh Ch Ballakinnish Mistinguette
4. Webb's Sh Ch Shannonlee The Skylark
