DNA TEST CONTROL SCHEME FOR IRISH RED & WHITE SETTERS
The Kennel Club would like to remind all breeders of Irish Red & White Setters that new rules regarding the DNA Control Scheme for CLAD (Canine Leucocyte Adhesion Deficiency) for the breed are now in place.

As agreed by the Irish Red & White Setter Breed Clubs and the Kennel Club, the Kennel Club will now refuse registration of Irish Red & White Setter puppies unless both parents have been tested clear of CLAD, or are hereditarily clear of CLAD.

No Irish Red & White Setter carriers of CLAD will be registered after 16th June 2008.

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 8th June 2008
12/6/08 11:50:43 AM

The Club's Championship Show was held on Sunday 8th June 2008 at Newton Regis Village Hall, Austrey Lane, Newton Regis, Staffs B79 0NL, judge elect Mrs Joyce Webb (Shannonlee) drew an entry of 70 from 57 dogs with only 7 absent on the day (all bitches).

Despite a set back, in that judging had to take place indoors due to a re-arranged village cricket match, the show proceeded to timetable and a happy atmosphere prevailed with lots of good humoured banter!  Even the anticipated visit from a KC Field Officer didn't put a damper on proceedings and I am pleased to report that he went away a happy bunny with all boxes ticked.

Food was, as usual, plentiful with Bacon Butties available on arrival and a splendid buffet lunch co-ordinated by John & Kath Barcroft.  I'm sure they would wish to thank their non-committee helpers who slaved away in a hot kitchen to ensure everyone was well fed - Sarah (sorry don't know your surname), Tony "the dishwasher" Callaghan and Graham "milk & sugar" Warnes.

Jacque Bayne organised the lunch break entertainment with a Lucky Number Board, a Dog Quiz and a welcome return of the Doggi Deli!

The draw for the beautiful Festival 25 Vase, hand painted by Ann Millington, took place after judging with the winning ticket drawn by Joyce Webb - her final task of the day.  A delighted Geoff Tong was present to collect his prize from Ann.  Early indications are that this has raised approx. £450 towards next year's celebrations, a big thank you to everybody who bought tickets both here and abroad.

Full results of the show are available on the relevant page of the web site and we hope to have a copy of Joyce's critique ASAP.

Our next show is the Autumn Open Show on Sunday 5th October at Hasland Village Hall, Chesterfield where we will be extending a warm welcome to Mrs Chris Schofield (Risanda).

NEW DNA TEST CONTROL SCHEMES APPROVED

At the request of the relevant breed clubs, the General Committee of the Kennel Club has approved two new DNA test control schemes, for Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA-rcd 1) in the Irish Setter and for von Willebrand Disease (vWD) in the Irish Red and White Setter, as follows:

  • Effective 1st January 2010, the Kennel Club will not register an Irish Setter litter unless both parents are either DNA tested clear of PRA-rcd 1, or are hereditarily clear of this mutation.

  • Effective from 1st January 2011, the Kennel Club will only register litters of Irish Red & White Setters if both parents are DNA tested clear of the von Willebrand Disease (vWD) mutation, or are hereditarily clear of this mutation.
