Critique
It was an honour and a pleasure to judge and award my first set of CC’s at this show, where hospitality and atmosphere are second to none. A quality entry and I was particularly pleased with my dog line up. On the day the smaller more compact dogs performed better in the indoor ring and not all could get into their stride. There were a couple of iffy mouths, a few withers lumps, and a couple of otherwise good dogs carrying too much weight. At this stage of the breed’s progress we should be focussing on good front and rear angulation. Looking in profile, breadth from the shoulder joint to a line dropped just behind the blade, and from the forward edge of the pelvis to the buttocks needs to improve.
Puppy Dog (3)
1st Walker’s Vanders Va Voom Avec Wroxham. Liked his size, balance and proportions. Appealing head, dark expressive eye. Moderate length of neck, slight crest, leading into smooth shoulders. Level topline and correct tailset. Straight front, sufficient oval bone, tight feet. Good depth of chest. Length from hip to hock allowed good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Moved steadily. Very promising, will take time to mature. Excellent colour and markings. BPIS.
2nd Bayne’s Corranroo Crossfire. Bigger all through and a little strong in head, hazel eye, muscular neck of good length. Well bodied, good spring of rib and short couplings. Strong oval bone, straight front and neat feet. Excellent colour and markings. Moved OK.
3rd Hargreaves’ Charnborough Marathon Man at Forgeway
Junior Dog (5,1abs)
1st Wade’s Oldestone Snow Wizard. Smart young man, well balanced and together. Excellent angulation fore and aft. Straight front, oval bone, neat feet. Strong in body and well ribbed up. Head needs to mature but in proportion for age. Moved well. Good colour and markings. One to watch.
2nd Walton’s Gallybob Gold Standard. Very nice youngster giving his handler a hard time. Appealing head, broad in proportion to body, intelligent dark eye, fairly square, clean muzzle. Strong oval bone, straight front, good length of upper arm. Another with good rear angulation showing breadth across rear quarters. Strong in body with depth to chest and well ribbed up. Very promising.
3rd Lamb’s Casafelice Askanian
Yearling Dog (1,1abs)
Novice Dog (2)
1st Vanders Va Voom Avec Wroxham.
2nd Hargreaves’ Charnborough Marathon Man at Forgeway. 6 month baby enjoying his day out and going through that legs and wings stage. Taller than 1 and needs time. Appealing head and expression, straight front, good colour and markings.

Postgraduate Dog (1)
1st Taylor’s Laoirebay Ocean Sunset. Well proportioned head, dark round eye, ears set level and well back. Moderate strong neck with slight crest. Level topline and correct tailset. Good length of upper arm. Pleasing bend of stifle with strong rear pasterns. Overall a little long cast. Good colour and markings.
Limit Dog (4)
1st Bayne’s Corranroo Casanova. My surprise of the day, not a flashy dog but a good honest R&W who really appealed on the day. Well balanced having all the construction qualities I was looking for. Excellent angulation for and aft, had that breadth to front and rear quarters. Good depth of brisket, well ribbed up and strong loin. Straight front, neat feet, correct oval bone. Best of heads, parallel planes, correct depth of muzzle and length of foreface, good stop, dark intelligent eye. Strong neck with slight arch. Sound and steady on the move. Excellent colour and markings. Pleased to award him his first CC and BIS.
2nd Sierakowski’s Tullamore Troubador. Really liked this dog but he gave his handler a very hard time. Slightly stronger head than 1 but in proportion to his body. Has substance all through, not quite as good in shoulder as 1 but overall construction is good. Will do well if he can settle to the job in hand. Considered for RCC.
3rd Griffin’s Corranroo Connexion
Open Dog (4)
1st Valentine’s Tullamore Ted JW. Much to commend this very nice dog just coming to his best. Best of heads with appealing dark eye and expression. Strong neck with slight crest. Super forehand assembly right down to his neat feet. Strong and muscular body with plenty of heart room, rib extending well back, short coupled, and level topline. To be picky would prefer a little more breadth and strength to hindquarters. Presented a very nice finished picture and moved well in the smaller indoor ring. RCC and impressed enough to take RBIS.
2nd Wade’s Sh Ch Casafelice Arles Merino. Slightly different type but a really nice one and worthy Sh Ch. Very good angulation and better rear than 1 but was unable to get into his stride; a larger outdoor ring would suit him better. Good colour.
3rd Tong’s Kellizlot Master Magician
Veteran Dog (4)
1st Jones’ Sh Ch Ryemills Deerstalker of Berryessa JW. Easy winner and another worthy Sh Ch, just carrying too much weight for me today and paid the price in the challenge – another day, another story. Lovely size and balance. Correct head proportions. Very well constructed, super angles fore and aft. Moved OK.
2nd Pipe’s Anjuli Pure Dynamite. Bigger dog all through but is balanced. Strong body, depth of brisket, ribs extending well back. Lacking width in front and rear quarters and very slack in front pasterns and feet.
3rd Pilmer’s Sh Ch Anisbrig Macallan ShCM
Puppy Bitch (3)
1st Hill’s Taniswood Precious Jade at Kolfor. Almost a year old, on the larger side but presenting a balanced picture. Nicely constructed all through. Level topline and correct tailset. Moved out steadily. Promising. RBPIS
2nd O’Connor’s Caispern Maid in Ireland. 6 month baby, different in type to 1, very raw and bum high at this stage. Sweet head, kind expression, dark eye, good stop. Straight front and neat feet. Good colour and markings. Moved out quite well.
3rd Sherratt’s Charnborough Glamour Girl
Junior Bitch (3)
1st Sherratt’s Casafelice Cormo at Charnborough. Liked this bitch a lot but she gave her handler a tough time. Moved very well when into her stride. Well balanced and well constructed all through. Lovely crest to neck, good lay of shoulder, well bodied up. Level topline, correct tailset. Lovely bend of stifle and well let down at hock. Beautiful colour and markings. Definitely one to watch.
2nd Taniswood Precious Jade at Kolfor.
3rd Walton’s Gallybob Gold Charm
Yearling Bitch (2)
1st Casafelice Cormo at Charnborough
2nd Housby’s Tullamore Tiggywinkle. Very nice young bitch, not as well angulated as 1 and stronger in head. Well bodied, level topline, short coupled. Straight front, neat feet. Beautiful colour and markings. Moved well.
Novice Bitch (3)
1st Taniswood Precious Jade at Kolfor
2nd Caispern Maid in Ireland
3rd Charnborough Glamour Girl
Graduate Bitch (2)
1st Casafelice Cormo at Charnborough
2nd Tullamore Tiggywinkle
Postgraduate Bitch (2)
1st Tullamore Tiggywinkle
2nd Pipe’s Laoirebay Ocean Mist. Larger bitch, unfortunately a little barrel chested and the depth of brisket pushes her elbows out. Shame as the angulation and her length of upper arm is good. Good bend of stifle. Strong neck with slight crest. Level topline.
Limit Bitch (4, 2abs)
1st Lamb’s Casafelice Charollais. Very nice bitch sadly having a phantom which hindered her hind movement but enjoying her day out. Head of good proportions. Correct, moderate neck with slight crest. Level topline, correct tailset. Well bodied, short coupled, straight front, good length of upper arm. Good width of thigh.
2nd Webb & Lowe’s Shannonlee Rock Wren. This little bitch carries far too much weight, pushing her elbows out and it is a shame as she is otherwise well constructed. Sweet and appealing head, kind, soft eye. Good angles, short coupled. Plenty of coat. Could be stacked to better advantage at the rear end.
Open Bitch (4)
The hardest class to judge with 4 bitches all having much to commend them and could all change places on another day.
1st Walker’s Sh Ch Wroxham Merry Maid. This bitch is heavily ticked but try as I might to look away from her I am drawn to her superb construction. In fact one of the best constructed bitches in the breed. Head of correct proportions, best of necks with slight crest, leading into the smoothest of shoulder, level topline with tail flowing nicely off the back. Showing correct breadth to front and rear quarters. Strong and powerful all through. Very sound and I prefer to see her move outside than in. Worthy of her title. The ticking was the difference between CC & RCC today. Her red is rich chestnut and sufficiently broken. RCC and will always be a favourite.
2nd Tong’s Kellizlot Star Attraction. Another favourite showing her age a bit now. Unlucky to meet both the CC and RCC winners on such good form. Most beautiful head. Well balanced and well constructed all through. Strong in neck and body, with good depth of brisket and ribs extending well back. Straight front. Sound mover.
3rd Webb’s Sh Ch Shannonlee the Skylark.
Veteran Bitch (4,2abs)
1st Barcroft’s Sh Ch Ballakinnish Minuet. Have always admired this bitch and I was not disappointed when getting my hands on her. Super outline and beautifully constructed all through. Best of heads. Neck leads into well laid shoulders, level topline with tail flowing nicely off the back. Very well balanced and well angulated fore and aft and at 8 years old she still moves true and soundly. In full coat with beautiful colour and markings. CC, BOS & BVIS.
2nd Tong’s Kellizlot Star Attraction.
Brace (5,2abs)
1st Tong’s well matched littermates, most beautiful heads.
